Bend resident Phyllis Bear is ready to fill 50 empty barrels with kids’ books, as part of the Council on Aging RSVP Read Together Books & Bears. The new reading program will launch Tuesday, April 13 on Literacy Day as part of the Week of the Young Child when the donation barrels — donated by the Rotary Club of Greater Bend — will appear across Deschutes County. People are being asked to donategently used or new children’s books to the program, which will be giving to children less fortunate for summer reading. The program is targeting children from birth to fifth grade.
